It is committed to continuing long term relationships with clients and insurers through the providing of personal, prompt, and economical client services. It understands the need for, and therefore emphasizes, regular communications between its attorneys, clients, and insurers, in order to ensure accurate and informative decisions are made on all legal matters.

Our attorneys pride themselves in handling their own files from inception through litigation, each supervised by a partner of the firm. However, the delegation of work to its lawyers is made only after taking into consideration the nature of the litigation, the exposure and complexity of the dispute, and the experience level of the assigned attorney.

  Costs

Costs are an important consideration in our practice. We recognize that the majority of cases filed in central and southern California are resolved without trial. For that reason, it is our strategy to evaluate liability and damages in every case at the earliest possible opportunity in order to determine whether the case can be resolved by way of alternative dispute resolution, settlement, motion for summary judgment, or dismissal. If the matter is not amenable to an early resolution, we immediately meet with our client to discuss a litigation plan and undertake the discovery necessary to ascertain the relevant facts and issues for preparation for arbitration or trial.

We strive to evaluate each case on an individual basis, as to its exposure and discovery needs, and not to simply handle the files pursuant to a preset schedule. This results in an efficient evaluation and resolution of files, with a minimum of discovery and litigation and a cost savings to our client. We submit billing statements in particular detail so that our clients can understand each one of our efforts and we can be responsible for our services.

  Flexibility

With high quality and experienced defense counsel, Watten, Discoe, Bassett & McMains can efficiently and aggressively defend unwarranted claims through trial, as well as promptly and fairly settle those where liability is reasonably clear. Watten, Discoe, Bassett & McMains is dedicated to such flexibility. Our belief has always been that a well-prepared case will result in a successful resolution.
